2016 Registration Now Closed

Registration for our 2016 season has now closed and we have 49 teams registered for the new season. This means that we will have 10 divisions this season, 9 with 5 teams each and 1 division of 4 teams. Our Captains Meeting is scheduled for Friday 12th February at the Riverside Centre, Stratford St Andrew.

Black Cats 1, Bloomers 2

The two Bressingham teams met again on a damp, drizzly morning and this time Bloomers came away with a win.  The Bloomers easily won the triples.  In the singles Darren overcame a resolute opponent and eventually won.  The pairs was a ding-dong game but eventually Russ and Cyril (Black Cats), who put some telling boules in, salvaged a point for the hosts.  Report by Liz.From left, Russ, Les, M

Due to issues with lighting (trailing cables etc), the club has decided to go elsewhere.  Setting up a new terrain at the Diss Bowls Club was an option but complaints from the neighbours put paid to that.We have all now joined Diss Waveney Pétanque Club.  Bressingham Flyers will become Diss Flyers (same personnel) for our involvement in the Thursday evening league which will commence in Apri

First Event of 2016 - Aldeburgh are Unofficial World Champions believe it or not!!!!

Fifteen triples battled out the ''Boules Rimet Trophy'' at the Parrot & Punchbowl earlier today, ushering in the new 2016 season with a friendly natured and well contested tournament, run by Jeff Short of the White Lion Aldeburgh.Triples had to nominate a country they were representing and the event saw Japan, Honduras, Colombia, Canada, Faroe Islands, Estonia, Tuvalu, Central African Republic, G

Late news pre-2016

Norwich Pétanque Club hosted Christmas Cracker Melée Pairs at the Cottage last Sunday.  This was the last event of 2015.The weather wasn't too good but there was a great turnout - 24 in total including muself and Les from Bressingham.  Different partner for each of the three rounds.I was drawn first and partnered John Nooney, Tony Brenchley and Rae (new to the game).  I was declared the winne

Adnams Coastal Petanque League versus Nottingham/Mercia - Saturday 18th June 2016

Its Beginning To Look A Lot Like....Fifty!!

With a flurry of recent Registration activity, our league membership for the 2016 season is looking like it could be approaching the 50 team mark.We currently have 39 teams formally registered with 3 registrations ''in the post'', whilst awaiting 5 teams from last season to re-register and we have also been in touch with around a dozen other contacts that may produce a new team/venue for 2016.Ent

Two results from the winter league

Buckaneers 2, Black Cats 1Pat, Mike and Jenny had a terrific 13-7 win in the triples, defeating Richard, Roz and Jerome.  M&J started off well in the pairs but finally succumbed to a 13-7 defeat as the rain set in.  Jerome restricted Pat to 3 points in the singles - info from Pat and Jenny.Bloomers 3, Hubb Capps 0The triples was a tight and even game match.  Di and Les had a comfortable win bu

Winter League - Black Cats 1, The Hunters 2

Rain held off.Pat, Cyril and Russ let slip a 10-0 lead in the triples.  I had one of my better games in the singles. One point for each game won.  I like this format as a team can pick up either 3,2,1 or 0 points per match.

City of Norwich Winter League gets under way

Format - One triple followed by one pair and a single.  Points awarded for games won within a match.  No additional points awarded for a win.Bloomers 1, Black Cats 2Both Bressingham teams were in action against each other.  Black Cats triple of Pat,Jenny and Mike put in a controlled performance.  Les and I had a good finish to our game.  Liz and Mick rescued a point for Bloomers.

Points system in need of change?

Hello fellow petanquers,I have been doing some research on the way other regions manage their pétanque leagues. A few can produce draws while others are only interested in the aggregate points score, 59-46 for instance. While I am not necessarily a fan of these, I still think our current format of two points for a win and zero for a loss is a little dull as the points total column is always dou

'Circle in the Sand' pairs event

If there was only one petanque event I could choose to play in, this would be it.  Pity it only comes round once a year though.  The weather was superb - some cloud but generally warm and dry.
