Experience the glamour and opulence of Southern France as you step inside this chic Chancery Lane cocktail bar. To be found in the vaulted cellar of an old auction house, Baranis Bar provides intimate booths and the UK's only indoor petanque court - the perfect London bar for after work drinks or for something a little different in amongst the hustle and bustle of the city.
The cultural ways of the French have long perplexed the Brits - even though most struggle less and with fewer failures than Mr Bean on holiday - but this Chancery Lane bar version of Provence was very approachable. After a pleasant Thursday evening, pampered in the charming customs of Southern France; fresh herb cocktails, a wine chamber and gravel court for a game of pentaque, I recommend it dearly for some well-crafted drinks in a chic atmosphere.
Petaque is not exactly beer-pong, but throwing metal balls towards a small target ball on a gravel court was generating a surprisingly high spirited atmosphere and the court was busy all night. You definitely need to book the court in advance to be sure to get a game in. The court area has two tables and a private booth so it's suitable for a group of up to 30 people. Occasionally Baranis hold competitions for skilled ball precisionists.

The Financial times has finally understood that Petanque is the game of the future, with our long time friend Mike Pegg, International umpire. "It may not be the sunny south of France but even on a chilly Devon day, British fans are warming to the charms of pétanque"
This is a product we have mentioned earlier, just because it is sooooo French. A Tour de France petanque-set! This is more French than a baguette!
We stumbled across a petanque-game for the andoid-system. From the produces description:"Petanque in St Tropez is a 3D bowls game, as played on the mediterannean coast." We do not have an android-phone to test it on, perhaps one of you can help us out?
