Winner-Takes-All Triples Competition
Sunday 13th July at Caerleon RFC Petanque Club 9.30 reg. 10am start
£5 per player – teams of 3 or 4.
It seems that there are lots of big comps with reasonable money - but they spread the money very thinly. As our club is little (4 pistes), we thought we'd have a few teams but channel all the money in one direction.
Format and Prizes
The format will be a maximum of 10 teams playing in 2 pools of 5 (a bye for everyone). The games will be timed to keep the competition moving – but an hour will be allowed for each game (with two ends to be played after the time is up). Following the round robin, the top 2 teams in each group go through to the semi-finals, and the winners in this round go on to the Final: the winner scooping whatever is in the pot. Those who don’t make the cut off are out (there is no plate).
All monies will go into the prize fund – 10% of the money will be set aside for a random draw, with the remaining 90% (£135 if we fill the competition) going to the winners.
Random draw: for each game you win you will get a raffle ticket. There will be a draw after the round robin and team who have the winning ticket will receive the 10%. This is to keep everyone playing for wins in every game. So even if you lose your first three games and it looks like you are out of the competition you still have a chance to get back your entry fee by winning the fourth game.
At £5 per player, if we fill all 10 places, that’s a pot of £150 to play for. £135 first prize and £15 random draw.

| General Info | La fête de la Pétanque!
Also this year, the Pétanque Club Zurich organises the traditional Grand Prix International de Zurich, which takes place on the Josefwiese. It will be the 39th edition of this tournament, which, over the years, acquired an outstanding reputation in the international Pétanque community.
A victory in Zurich is of high value, even for players with a lot of expertise in winning tournaments.
The GP Zurich is an exceptional niche-event, at the same time both a local and an international happening, attracting those who play only for fun as well as professionals. The urban ambience on the Josefwiese sets the scenery for an event that wants to be more than just a Pétanque competition. The GP Zurich is also perceived by many as a cultural and social happening.
The Grand Prix International de Zurich is not an invitational tournament. Pre-application/pre-registration is not required. For all competitions, registration with the tournament office is possible until the published end of the registration period which is 30 minutes before the beginning of the respective competition.
All competitions of our tournament are played mitigé, i.e. the players of a team do not need to belong to the same club / society or be citizen of the same country.
For the main competitions, i.e. Triples Open, Doubles Open, Triples Ladies and Doubles Ladies, a licence issued by a national association is required. Players without licence will, however, have the possibility to purchase a one-day licence at the tournament office (fee: CHF 25.-- per player). Such licence will enable players to participate in the main competitions.
In view of the high standard played in our competitions and the international background of many participants as well as due to the good air connections to Zurich, our tournament has become an attractive and popular event for various national teams.
Our budget and financial means are limited. Participating national teams may, however, expect a contribution to their travelling expenses.
National and regional associations considering to send a team to the Grand Prix International de Zurich are kindly requested to contact us at an early stage.
